A man who laced candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and 10.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The man played a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She said Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated materials including infant oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the man proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating the police response of the events.
The prosecutor stated the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities once more.
She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
